Life Cycle Thinking

December 11th – 13th 2019, Zagreb, Croatia

The 1st International Symposium on Environmental Management, SEM2003, was held in Zagreb, October 1–3, 2003, as a part of EMAT Fair, at Zagreb Fair, and it was organized by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb, and in cooperation with Slovenian Biomass Association (SI). The leading scientists, top experts and producers of the most advanced technologies and suppliers of the finest environmental equipment have met at the same place and dealt with the same topics. Through following topics: "Environmental management–trends and results", "Transboundary pollution, transmission and prevention", "Land resources remediation" and "Energy and environment" with number of subtopics, the scientists and experts discussed about the problems and new achievements from the field of environmental management. At the third day of Symposium was organized the round table with the topic "Education and Environment", due to the need for ecomanagement experts. In the framework of EUREKA & EUROENVIRON Projects the workshop "Solid Waste Management in Tourist Regions", was also organized. SEM2003 involved around 150 participants, 98 active, from 16 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Chile, Czech Republic, Formal Yugoslavia (Kosovo), Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Republic of South Africa, Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland, and USA) and four continents (Europe, Africa, North and South America) with 63 oral and 35 poster presentation. The scientists and experts from Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Sisak, Kutina, Vukovar, Zagreb and many other cities of Croatia also actively participate at SEM2003. In year 2005, as the final product of SEM2003, the book of selected papers from SEM2003 participants entitled "Environmental Management – Contribution to Solution" was published.

The 2nd International Symposium on Environmental Management, SEM2007, was held in Zagreb, September 12–14, 2007, as well as a part of EMAT Fair, at Zagreb Fair, and it was also organized by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb, but at that time in cooperation with the Croatian Environment Agency (HR), the University of Split (HR), the Croatian Academy of Engineering (HR), the University of Debrecen (HU) and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of the Jackson State University (US). Again, the leading scientists, top experts and producers of the most advanced technologies and suppliers of the finest environmental equipment have met at the same place and dealt with the same topic; Environmental Management. Through following topics: "Environmental Management – Trends and Results", "Transboundary Pollution, Transmission and Prevention", "Energy and Environment", "Nature Preservation in Croatia – Trends and Challenges", "Information System in Environment", "Environment – an Important Issue in the Negotiation Process with the EU" and "Education and the Environment" with number of subtopics, the scientists and experts discussed about the problems and new achievements from the field of environmental management. At the third day of Symposium the TEMPUS Project road show presenting the "ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT – POLICY AND SUSTAINABILITY (EMPS), International, Interdisciplinary, Postgraduate, Specialist Program" (JEP_19075_2004) was organized. SEM2007 involved around 160 participants, 111 active, from 24 countries (Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Italia, Japan, Jordan, Nepal, Pakistan, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey, USA, Uzbekistan) and four continents (Europe, Asia, North and South America) with 78 oral and 33 poster presentation. The scientists and experts from Split, Rijeka, Osijek, Sisak, Kutina, Vukovar, Zagreb and many other cities of Croatia also actively participated at SEM2007. Besides the book of abstracts including the presentations of all participants, the book of selected papers from SEM2007 entitled "Environmental Management, Trends and Results" was published as well.

The 3rd International Symposium on Environmental Management (SEM2011) – Towards Sustainable Technologies, held in Zagreb, Croatia, October 26–28, 2011. SEM2011 was organized by Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the University of Zagreb in cooperation with: Hrvatske vode, Legal entity for water management (HR); Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Jackson State University (US); Croatian American Society (HR); Slovenian Biomass Association (SI); and ODRAZ, NGO, Sustainable Community Development (HR). The conference brought together more than 180 environmental professionals and experts from Croatia and 27 countries from 4 continents (Asia: India, Iran, Japan, Republic of Korea, Thailand; Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria; North America: United States, Mexico; Europe: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Kosovo, Hungary, Germany, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom).
